Henry Bausman built this 2.5 story 35'X 40' frame mill in 1789. Records show he owned a mill on Fishing Creek from 1773-1789. This was probably the Cowgill's Mill near the mouth of Fishing Creek. This may be the same mill and he just rebuilt the Cowgill's Mill or built a new mill on the same site. It could also be a different mill altogether. The old Cowgill's Mill, a water corn mill, was aquired by Benjamin Johnson in 1752, Caleb Johnson in 1759, Matt McCally, Joseph & Samuel Morrison from 1767-69 had the grist & fulling mill, John Nelson from 1769-1772, Henry Bausman (Bowman)from 1773-1779, and Henry Bowman from 1782 thru 1792. An old photo by Harold Barton from the Lanc. Hist. Soc. suggests that this mill was built by Israel Penrose on the site of Geo. McCulluch's 1723 mill.

Jacob Gryder owned the grist and saw mill from 1796 to 1816. Simon Pennock owned the mill from 1817-1821, with the mill staying in the Pennock family through 1875, William Pennock in 1864 and L. & G. T. Pennock, 1875, selling to Edgar Brown in 1899. The old frame building, in great condition for a frame building so old, is used primarily for storage.
